Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently along with the President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
